Mixed weekend for young assassins

The Medway Assassins Youth team played their first two games of the season on Sunday. The games, which were kindly sponsored by
Crest Nicholson were played against Hastings Crazy Bones and Eastbourne Edge.

Game 1
The first game of the season started a bit too fast for the Assassins, with an early shot from Hastings taking everyone by
surprise to give them the early lead. The Assassins then settled down and it wasn’t long before youngest member of the Team,
Samuel Wyatt slotted home to make the game 1-1. The Assassins then grew in confidence and traded goals with Hastings, next
was Kieran Wyatt with his first of the season, before James Laming scored 2 in succession followed by a nicely worked team
goal for Alix Deviell. With the game tied at 5-5, it was still anyone’s game before James stepped up to score his hatrick
goal and Kieran bagged his second of the game to give the Medway Assassins their first ever league win, beating the Crazy
Bones 7-5!

Game 2
Eastbourne Edge who currently lie 2nd in the league were going to be a tougher team to beat, but the Assassins had learnt a
lot in their first game, and were ready for the challenge.
The game started fast and furious but the Assassins held it steady with new netminder Lucy Gruber pulling off some impressive
saves. Eastbourne were first to score, but this was quickly cancelled out by Kieran Wyatt. Again goals were traded with
Eastbourne scoring and then the Assassins. Alix Deviell was next to score before the Eastbourne scored again a couple of
times. James Laming scored his first of the game but sadly Eastbourne were now 5-3 in front with the clock ticking down.
James then scored again with less than 2 minutes left to play so a tense end to the game was in store. The Assassins battled
hard but could not convert their chances, and it was Eastbourne who had a breakaway in the last 30 seconds and scored to
finish the game at 6-4.

Two very close games, which could have gone either way and a very exciting start to the season, with the Assassins getting
better as each game developed and with players gaining valuable experience. Ben Fisher was playing in his first ever games,
putting in some big hits and with the strong defense of Jake Mills and Alix Deviell plus PeeWee players Luke Fitzgerald,
Samuel Wyatt and Jack Middleton together with James Laming and Kieran Wyatt up front all backed up by netminder Lucy Gruber,
the Assassins are a hard working team with prospect to develop nicely.
